This week, it was time to celebrate Harvest at Lanesend. Each year group chose a traditional Harvest food to learn about and present during Friday afternoon's assembly. Macbeth and Measure for Measure classes explored the Lammas Festival , which is the celebration of the first Grain Harvest. A group of children helped to bake bread rolls, learning about the importance of adding the magic ingredient, yeast, to make it rise. We also all learnt a song about the process of making bread and performed it in assembly. We were very proud of the children for doing this just three weeks into their time at school.

This week saw the grand opening of our marvellous new Mud Kitchen. The children had spent the early part of term negotiating rules and good practice for using the Mud Kitchen and finally it was time to get stuck in. They have loved making mud pies, soups and drinks for each other and there has been lots of chatting and problem solving going on, not least involving getting dressed in their cover-ups! Our Mud Kitchen was designed and built by students of the National Citizenship Service in partnership with UKSA and we are so grateful to them for this wonderful new resource. This week, Kian and mum kindly brought in their tortoises to share with the Reception classes. The children enjoyed feeding them some dandelion leaves and Kian was able to tell us some facts about them. All the children were careful and gentle with the animals and were still eager for more time with the tortoises - unfortunately it was time to go home. If you have any wonderful pets at home that you think the children would enjoy showing to their peers, please let one of the Reception team know and we can see if this can be arranged.
This term, we are very lucky to have Claire and Nicola from Rhythm Time visit the children in Reception every Wednesday afternoon. They will be with us for the next ten weeks, bringing an amazing variety of instruments and resources that allow the children to develop new skills in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage. The children (and adults) are always excited about the next visit and we will continue to add pictures of us all enjoying Rhythm Time as the weeks go on.
Welcome to our brand new Reception class blog! This year our classes are named after Shakespearean plays and you will be able to keep up to date with everything that the children in Macbeth and Measure for Measure classes are learning about via our blog. We hope to post photos, videos and some top tips to help your child with their learning, so please check back often to see what is new.
